Educational situation today

It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very popular nowadays. Since school a lot of young people believe such speciality to be very attractive. With such an viewpoint they are brought up in their families, go to high school, to a institute and after all they begin bringing up their own children that way. Impasse.
Why is it so? What do make people think that engineering sciences have lost their popularity?
There are several reasons.
First of all present machinery reached such a high level of growth that society is capable of using it without having special engineering education. thereby there is no necessity for further spreading of technical knowledge. Humanits use starts dominating in all aspects of life.
Secondly it is an well known fact that we are in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to describe the world around and consume things, but not to produce something by themselves. Of course this phenomenon does not influence positively on spreading of technical education. People are simply not concerned with it.
In the third place is the fact that the resource base has achieved such a degree of desolation that we frequently have no place for work after learning the theory.
after all a very significant thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it popularize as asked-for today? We can easily get to know it by researching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what ways of life do they promote today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media present us easy way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a after all?
Lack of skilled workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will lead to a difficult situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no experienced teachers able to train adequate personnel working in non-humanist spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our society do in order to improve the situation? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our state should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. Then our country should apply efforts in order to popularize technological specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to preserve technological professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
